Jersey comedy folk group Sergeant Pippons Lonely Hearts Club Band are calling on their fans to nominate one of their songs 'Proud' as the anthem for Jersey. The group are encouraging fans to visit the States of Jersey Island Anthem page and fill in a nomination for 'Proud' to be the islands official anthem.
They say that "A number of people think that "Proud to be a Bean" should be the official Jersey Anthem". They also go on to suggest it could be fun to see Senator Frank Walker singing the song "What a wonderful thought to imagine Frank and the Bailiff singing "Proud" side by side".

The song talks of being proud and glad to be a Bean and explains some of the reasons why. The majority of the song focuses on a selection of places to go out for a drink and what to drink while there. The Alternatives Another popular Jersey My Space star is Hedley le Maistre who's Jersey Mon Vie seems to be a popular choice for island anthem on the bbc.co.uk/jersey 'Anthem for the Island' article. The 大象传媒 Jersey website team and 大象传媒 Radio Jersey are also trying to create an anthem of their own, with the help of the people of Jersey. The People's Anthem project hopes to create a community written song that could be submitted as a candidate for the island anthem competition. Finding an anthem A competition was launched earlier this year by the States of Jersey to find an anthem that could be played at events like The Island Games, Commonwealth Games and other competitions.
Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, told the States that if the competition produces a suitable anthem, he will invite the States to recognize it formally as the Island鈥檚 anthem for future use at events like the Island and Commonwealth Games. The National Anthem, God Save the Queen, would still be played at formal ceremonies to recognise Jersey鈥檚 constitutional status and its historic allegiance to the Crown but an Island Anthem would give Jersey a song to play on, what is an increasing number of occasions when there is a need to celebrate the Island鈥檚 own international identity in a more individual way. Senator Walker told the States of Jersey "I hope that the opportunity for the Assembly to endorse an anthem to be used to reinforce our sense of identity will be widely welcomed鈥.

The final selection will be made in public in the Autumn with members of the audience having the opportunity to contribute to the judging process. There is no entry fee to taking part in the competition or nominating a work neither is there a cash prize but the composer of a new piece used as an anthem will have the work published on the States website with his biographical details, and will receive official recognition as the composer of the Jersey anthem.
