As if global warming and the credit crunch aren鈥檛 enough to worry about, kooky American pop-rock band We Are Scientists have warned about a danger that will instil great fear into every Jersey man, woman and child 鈥 the threat of the 'Guernsey Assassin'.

Chris and Keith from the band explained all about them at Jersey Live (if you鈥檙e too afraid to learn more, stop reading now). 鈥淲hen we were making our way here [Jersey] we kept on hearing whispers about the Jersey myth and the Jersey devil and getting crushed Jersey style, so there was some fear,鈥 they explained. 鈥淭here鈥檚 always the oppressive theoretical fear of the Guernsey Assassins. Any event that鈥檚 taking place in Jersey is said to be plagued by the efforts of the Guernseans to undo it. 鈥淚n a case like this it would take place in the form of the Guernsey Assassins.鈥 Pretty scary stuff, enough to make all right-thinking Jersey folk ensure they always slept with one eye open that's for sure. We Are Scientists felt compelled to try and keep the ominous threat at bay by encouraging unity between the islands during their performance, a suggestion met by a cacophony of boos from the festival-goers. 鈥淲e do feel like we were sent here on a peace keeping mission, but in very traditional American fashion our peace keeping mission resulted in all-out unjust war,鈥 Keith explained. We are Scientists fans or 'Guernsey Assassins'? "It got very ugly when we mentioned the sister-island, brother-island, cousin-island - I don't know what the right word is, please don't kill me." While at the festival the band, who hale from New York, also believed they uncannily identified a desperation amoung islanders for entertainment. 鈥淚 tell you this, I was out in the crowd earlier this afternoon and took out a couple of hackey sacks and started juggling and I drew a crowd of about 1200, so they are desperate for entertainment here. 鈥淚 am one of the best jugglers in the world,鈥 Chris humbly admitted, 鈥渂ut I鈥檝e never got more than 10 or 12 people to watch.鈥 However, the band also predicted that the time for Jersey to be reputed as a worldwide beacon of excellence for music could be just around the corner. 鈥淚 think Jersey鈥檚 time is now, Seattle had a time in the early 90s, Minneapolis think they had a time but they didn鈥檛, obviously New York has always been the main city in the world for music. 鈥淢aybe now is Jersey鈥檚 time to shine, maybe it鈥檚 time to stand up and make the rest of the world take notice and make this a destination for music instead of just an outpost.鈥 You heard it here first!
