Bradford is a city well known for its ethnic diversity, and it is nothing new. Its history since the Industrial Revolution has been marked by movement of people into the city. This included the 19th Century European merchants who came to sell Bradford's textile products to the rest of the world, and the Jews among them consecrated this synagogue in the Manningham area in 1881. The last phase of large scale immigration included those from the Asian sub-continent, those from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
