|
In Herefordshire, gypsies and travellers are a familiar sight in the countryside, either encamped at the side of a country road with their ponies at rest, or on the road in their vardo (or caravan). Countless generations have lived and travelled in Herefordshire since they first arrived in England, probably originating from India, in the early 1500s. Though their exact numbers are not known,due to their itinerant nature, they now make up the largest ethnic minority in Herefordshire, according to the local council.
