The Leeds West Indian Carnival claims to be the oldest Caribbean carnival in Britain. Crowd numbers have swollen from 1,000 to over 100,000 since it started in 1967. 1 Jim from Leeds - 13 November 2003 "I have been enjoying the carnival every year in Leeds for the past five years, I did not realise how long established it was! When you think of carnivals, you almost automatically think that Notting Hill Carnival is the oldest.
"
2 Sezza from Bradford - 13 November 2003 "The leeds Carnival is wicked! Me and my mates already have a real laugh at it every year. There's no atmosphere, everyone just gets on with havin a good time!"
