After King James I instigated the 1610 Plantation, where English and Scottish settlers were "planted" into Ulster, a new breed of people began to emerge and stand out, The Ulster Scots.

These hardy folk, mainly from the lowlands of Scotland, took to their allocation of fertile, Irish land with great passion. They were willing and capable tenants who worked the land tirelessly and fought off anyone who sought to endanger their livelihood.

This frontiersmen-like approach in Ireland would be mirrored in North America in the 18th Century, where the Ulster Scots would play a central role. More...
