The connection between Hull and paint might not be immediately obvious. Most people associate the city with its famous port and fishing trade rather than the less well-known oil seed crushing business, which has in fact played a far more important role in the city’s development.
And, thanks to Hull’s oil seed crushing industry, the city has a colourful history in the production of paint. Through the local firm, Blundell’s, this article examines the perils and pitfalls facing the individuals involved in this business.
