Your Story: Pat's Story

I enjoyed working at the store as well as going to night school to learn economics and a business course as well as a new language. This did not last long as war broke out and I had to learn first aid which was more useful to help out at local hospitals. I then went into full time nursing in North Yorkshire. I worked 56 hours per week but somebody found that was illegal, and we changed to 48 hours. I was paid 5 pound per month. We had an indoor and outdoor uniform. We could go out till 10:30pm only on evenings off but if we were working we couldn’t go out after working. I worked with more people than there is now as we had to do everything including cleaning as well as nursing.
