Your Story: My nana |
|
My nana was 21 in 1963. When my nana was 21 , my auntie helped her to get a job in a clothing factory. She could only work part-time because she was pregnant with her second child. She didn't need any special qualifications for the factory.
In the mornings she had to go in early to set up the work, she worked mostly with women. The wage was about £7 a week. It was very tiring for eight hours for one day a week. She thought the wage was fair at the time.
She mostly spent it on her house. She enjoyed going to work to see her work mates. Sometimes you can be under pressure. She walked to work because it wasn't far. She really enjoyed talking to my nana. I learnt a lot about Britain since 1948 and how a lot of things have changed
since then.
