The Barking Episcopal Area includes five east London Boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, together with Epping Forest, Harlow and Ongar in West Essex. It鈥檚 one of the largest and most multi-cultural areas in England. Who's whoFrom left to right the new deacons are as follows:Ken Ashton; Sally Lynch; The Venerable Elwin Cockett, Archdeacon of West Ham; Bridget de Mello; Gill Anderson; Emeka Ejinkoyne; Rt Revd John Gladwin, The Bishop of Chelmsford; Rt Revd David Hawkins, The Bishop of Barking; Geoffrey Eze; William Obedoza; Shaun Moore; Andy Poultney; Sheila Fernandes; Lyn Hillier; Neil Walsh and The Venerable Peter Taylor, Archdeacon of Harlow. The Church of England says this diversity has not always been reflected among Church of England clergy.听 But this year is different, with the new curates reflecting a mix of cultures and traditions.听 The Bishop of Barking, The Right Reverend David Hawkins said he was thrilled: 鈥淭his area is so rich in it鈥檚 mix of culture and traditions and I am delighted that this is beginning to be reflected in the backgrounds of these twelve new curates. Within the group there is a good balance of gender, of theological tradition and of ethnicity that reflects the communities they will be living and working in."
He continued "Equally importantly, this group reflects the whole spectrum of the Church of England and that is very healthy and exciting. It鈥檚 a clear demonstration of the continuing relevance of the church and of Jesus Christ, to people of all backgrounds and traditions.鈥澨 last updated: 30/06/2008 at 17:37 Have Your Say
