Working
in a record shop has to be the dream job for any dj/promoter and
Marc OD the force behind Metropolis - Manchester's pure drum'n'bass/old
skool/hip-hop and breaks night - knows it.Factory on Church Street
is the perfect base if you'll pardon the pun and if he had any ambitions
to rip the ears off passers-by with his latest set he can.And he
does - trust!
You
can hear Factory before you see it and you can see Marc OD's famous
'cheesy' grin - ask George, Jay and Esther - as soon as you enter
the place. This man likes his job.
Metropolis
has risen from the ashes of a troubled Manchester urban scene and
unlike many of its competitiors is doing well.Serious attendances
and enviable lineups including the likes of Bad Company, DJ Sy
and Kenny Ken have made it a success where others have failed.
Marc
OD puts this down to a music policy which encourages diversity and
a desire to bring the best of the local scene through to the fore.
Debbie
Troops headed down to the Northern Quarter and tried to blag some
free vinyl - she got an interview instead!
See the chat.
Marc
OD on...music I
like all sorts of stuff and if I feel like it I'll go out and dance
to funky stuff on a Saturday night - I mean I love my drum'n'bass
the most but I'll listen to everything, soul, house...
Marc
OD on...the
Manchester music scene Lots
of clubs and music are suffering from being labelled but luckily
drum'n'bass is doing ok...not sure how long it'll last but at the
moment it's a good vibe...for us we're doing really well and it's
very positive.
Marc
OD on...Metropolis I
started the parties 'cos there wasn't anywhere in Manchester worth
going to that played good drum'n'bass at the time...I got a good
reaction from the start and it's just grown from there...audiences
are good but I find that when I go abroad - like I've just been
to France with Tonn Piper - and they love us, there's a really strong
underground thing going on and they like to hear lots of different
stuff...
Marc
OD on...making
his own music It's
the next step for me and I'm talking to a few people. The nights
are keeping me really busy though and I'm looking forward to Die
and Krust on Saturday...it'll be really good!
