The driver of a car which crashed on the M6, injuring five people including two children, has died.

A Seat Altea left the motorway at Billsborrow, near Preston, and rolled several times, at about 14:00 BST on Monday.

The 33-year-old man, from Carlisle, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital but died on Tuesday, Lancashire Police said.

A woman, in her 60s remains in hospital, while a woman, in her 20s, and two children, have been discharged after treatment.

Witness appeal

A file on the man's death will be prepared and passed to HM Coroner in due course, the force said.

Det Sgt Helen Parkinson said: "Our investigation into the collision continues and we continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage, to contact us."

The motorway between junctions 33 and 32 was closed for several hours on Monday while officers investigated the incident.
