    The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council wants the government to commission an independent inquiry into .

    Labour councillor Shaun Davies made the call following claims in the Sunday Mirror that hundreds of girls were exploited in the borough over a period of about 40 years.

    He had said yesterday that a national review into child sexual abuse should visit Telford to investigate, but Mr Davies's call on Tuesday for a standalone inquiry .

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region, John Campion, said "whether or not there should be an independent inquiry into child sexual exploitation in any part of the country is a matter for Government."

    Repairs are getting under way at the guildhall in Ludlow today and they are due to take three months.

    It's costing £107,000 to fix the ceilings and roof gullies and make changes to the windows, to allow three air conducting units to be removed.

    The 14th Century building, which is still supported by its original timber frame, was previously used as the town's magistrates court, but in 2012 it became the home of Ludlow Town Council.

    The pair were second after the super G run and despite a storming slalom effort they were unable to get the better of Slovakia's Henrieta Farkasova and guide Natalia Subrtova, who won their third gold medal.

    Fitzpatrick, 19, from Macclesfield in Cheshire, was born with congenital retinal folds and has no vision in her left eye and limited sight in her right, but started skiing aged five.

  15. Spring Statement: Deal to deliver 215,000 homespublished at 14:08 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    A deal to deliver 215,000 homes across the West Midlands by 2030-31 has been announced by the Chancellor.

    During his Spring Statement to the Commons, Philip Hammond said the region had "ambitious plans".

    He said the project was facilitated by a grant from the land remediation fund.

  16. Scores hit by measles outbreakpublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    There are currently 75 confirmed cases of measles across the West Midlands, health chiefs say.

    Public Health England in the West Midlands said the region was the only area of the country with an "ongoing outbreak".

    It said a contributing factor was a lack of uptake in the MMR jab.

    A statement read: "Mostly we don’t see this, as the MMR vaccine is part of the national schedule of children’s vaccines, however sometimes we get clusters arising from those who have not been immunised."

    The cases are said to be largely concentrated in parts of Birmingham and Solihull.
