Merseyrail says the first rail services on some lines have been cancelled because of heavy rain and strong winds.

The services affected include those on the following lines:

• New Brighton to Liverpool
• West Kirby to Liverpool
• Southport to Hunts Cross
• Sandhills to Southport

Police in Ormskirk have been advised that Whiteleys Lane in Latham is currently closed between School Lane and A577 Wigan Road due to electrical cables blocking the road.

There is currently one flood warning in place in the North West, covering Skirden Beck and Kirk Beck at Bolton by Bowland.

The Environment Agency says river levels are rising rapidly due to rainfall and flooding is forecast to affect locations near the becks.

It also said residents should start acting on their flood plan if they have one.

There are also three flood alerts:

• On the Lower River Lune and Conder, areas most at risk include the Lune, Conder and Keer and other watercourses from Kirkby Lonsdale to Galgate, including Gressingham, Carnforth, Hornby, Wray, Bentham and Lancaster
• On the Upper River Wyre and Brock, areas most at risk include the Wyre, Calder and Brock and other watercourses from Abbeystead to Catterall including Scorton, Garstang, Bilsborrow, Ainspool and Churchtown
• On the Upper River Ribble and Hodder, areas most at risk include the Ribble, Hodder and other watercourses, from Settle to Samlesbury including Clitheroe, Gisburn, Sawley, Waddington and Ribchester

The Environment Agency says no property flooding is expected in the three areas covered by alerts.

Travel disruption's expected in Lancashire this morning as Storm Isha continues.

Some roads have been blocked due to fallen trees, and train passengers are being warned not to travel to Scotland.

Across the North West, 8,000 homes and businesses lost power on Sunday and Electricity North West had to stand down crews last night due to unsafe climbing conditions.

A yellow weather warning which was issued at 12:00 on Sunday remains in place until 12:00 today.

Very high winds continue to impact areas across the region and the wider UK has seen rain and gusts of wind of up to 99mph (159km/h).

Rain throughout the night has also brought the risk of flooding in some areas.

Manchester Airport says it has had no significant disruption caused by Storm Isha so far, but has taken eight diversions.

A spokesman for the airport says it has cancelled four departures.

The amber warning from the Met Office for high winds remains in place until 06:00 GMT on Monday.

We've had an update from Electricity North West, who say that there are now 7,899 homes without power in the region, with Cumbria by far the worst affected.

Electricity North West have about both the number of homes affected, and when customers can expect to be reconnected.

Temporary air traffic control restrictions are also in place, leading to some flight cancellations.

National Air Traffic Services (Nats) said: "Due to adverse weather conditions across the UK, temporary air traffic restrictions are in place. Restrictions of this sort are only every applied to maintain safety.

"Our teams are working closely with airports and airlines to minimise disruption. Passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline."

Thousands of people have also been tuning into YouTube to watch skilled pilots navigate their descents.

As Storm Isha continues to batter the region, 435 homes are now without power in Hazel Grove, Stockport.

Loyn Bridge at Gressingham, Lancaster, has been closed due to flooding, says Lancashire Police.

The force advised people to use an alternative route.

TransPennine Express is now advising passengers not to travel between Preston and Edinburgh and Preston and Glasgow until at least 12:00 GMT on Monday "due to the worsening conditions".

Network Rail suspended all services in Scotland at 19:00 with trains still on the network completing journeys under speed restrictions.

Some customers in Macclesfield and Warrington in Cheshire are also currently without electricity."The challenge is the winds are so strong and so high and a lot of the repairs that need to take place physically will be on the overhead line network and it is just not safe for our people to operate in those high winds," says Rachael Parr of Electricity North West.

She said hundreds of engineers were on standby and when the winds "die down a little bit" they will seek to restore power as soon as possible.

He said: "It's horrible - I'm right here on the seafront. Earlier there were gusts of 60mph but that's permanent now... the wind is so, so strong right now.

The says disruption to travel and utilities is likely until 06:00 GMT on Monday.

It says there is a significant chance of power cuts and the potential to affect mobile phone coverage.

Damage to buildings such as tiles blown from roofs is likely.

It also warns about danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts and coastal roads.
