The Daily Mail asks if it is time for Mr Gove "to call it a day".

Mr Gove says he was previously told during the EU referendum that they were "only polling at 33%," and yet his campaign still won. He adds that he has also achieved "the impossible" in other government departments.

Then he comes out swinging for Boris Johnson. He says he believes he'll get to the last two in the contest - against Mr Johnson - and urges him not to "pull out" as "I know you did before" so "we can have a proper race" with Conservative Party members.

That, of course, is a reference to 2016 when Boris Johnson withdrew from the leadership race to succeed David Cameron after Mr Gove decided to run against him rather than support him.

Sky News' Beth Rigby asks what happens if there is still no deal at the end of October, and - to some murmurs in the room from Mr Gove's supporters - whether the public can trust him when he took cocaine but criticised other middle-class people who take the drug.

Mr Gove says "you should reflect on your mistake" and he says he has.

On the first point, he says: "I believe we can make significant progress" in negotiations with the European Union. He says if good progress was being made, then he is prepared to delay for whatever length of time "is required".

He insists a general election "will lead to Jeremy Corbyn".

First question, as expected, on cocaine. The ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Nick Watt asks if Mr Gove's campaign "is in real trouble" over his cocaine use.

Mr Gove says he regrets "his past mistakes," but as justice secretary, he says he worked to ensure that people can "achieve redemption and enjoy a second chance".

He says he's asking people to take his record in government seriously - as seriously as he says he takes that responsibility.

This is a policy-rich speech. Mr Gove says he wants to "ensure that our NHS is fully-funded, properly funded" and that funding is protected under law.

He adds that he wants to create a "new, national cyber crime task force" so that local police forces can deal with local issues.

And promises more protection for the armed forces from legal challenges - not a great deal of detail on that yet though.

"I don't want us to have a situation, with Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street, propped up by Nicola Sturgeon," he says.

He says he can take on Jeremy Corbyn at the dispatch box in the House of Commons.

Now a broadside on Boris Johnson. Mr Gove says income tax cuts should work alongside Universal Credit to make the poor better off.

He says he would "never use the tax and benefits system to make the already wealthy another tax cut".

He adds that he will abolish business rates for small and medium sized businesses on the high street.

"I will make sure that every pound we spend is dedicated to improving growth," he tells the room.

"I was born in Scotland, worked in Northern Ireland, I married a woman from Wales, and last year I even supported England in the World Cup," he says, setting out his dedication to the United Kingdom.

On his promise to replace VAT with a sales tax, he says: "VAT is a regressive and complicated tax that hits the poor hardest."

On Brexit, Mr Gove says he decided to join the campaign to leave because "I believe that this is the right thing to do."

He says that his dad's fish processing business "went to the wall" because of the European Union.

There are people who are "crying out for their voices to be heard," and those voices were heard in the EU referendum in 2016, he says.

"It's not enough to believe in Brexit, you've also got to be able to deliver it," he says. He adds that he was always concerned when he was on the backbenches that Article 50 was triggered without a plan, but now he has that plan.

Within that plan, he adds, is "a full stop to the backstop" - the controversial insurance policy for the Irish border.

As one leadership hopeful launches his campaign, another is speaking in the House of Commons.

"I wasn't born Michael Gove, I was born Graham Logan... to a mother I never knew," he says, telling the crowd how he was raised by adopted parents and was the first to go to university in his family.

"I've always remembered one thing" from being adopted, "how fragile life can be," he says.

"I believe that every individual has something unique to offer," he adds.

He says it became his mission to make sure that "every child can fulfil their full potential", before moving onto his later briefs in government, justice and the environment.

"Our planet is in peril," he adds, listing the efforts he has made to change that.
