Snoop Dogg has said he wants to launch a show based on American Idol or The X Factor for aspiring hip hop artists.

The 39-year-old rapper also appealed to TV networks to let him find "America's hottest 'hood artist".

"My take on those shows like American Idol and X Factor - those are some great shows but I need to make a show like that that directed to the 'hood," he said.

Snoop Dogg is in the UK to promote his 11th studio album Doggumentary.

The rapper - real name Calvin Broadus - described the show as being for "the audience that don't get that attention, that don't have the money to make themselves look presentable, but have raw talent and natural ability."

He added the programme would be a search for "raw talent".

Snoop Dogg is the main headliner at this year's Lovebox festival in London on 16 July.
