A constable and a police dog stabbed on duty in Suffolk are ready to return to work, the force said.

PC Steven Jay, 52, and six-year-old German Shepherd Aman were injured while making an arrest in Nacton Road, Ipswich, on 25 October.

The dog was stabbed in the leg and Pc Jay suffered arm injuries as officers used a Taser to detain a suspect.

A 21-year-old Ipswich man charged over the incident will face court in January.

Suffolk police said both the officer and the animal had made a full recovery and would return to duty on Monday.

A 47-year-old man who suffered a stomach wound in the incident had also recovered, a police spokesman said.

PC Jay said: "The response from the public has been incredible and we are both looking forward to returning to full frontline duties.

"Aman has made an excellent recovery and has no lasting physical side effects."

PC Jay and Aman, part of the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Dog Unit, have worked together for the past four-and-a-half years.

Asher Picort, 21, of Oulton Road, Ipswich, has been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm and one count of criminal damage in relation to the incident.

He has yet to enter a plea and will appear at Ipswich Crown Court in January.
