The parents of a man who died after being hit by a van on the A3 in Surrey say their lives stopped when they were told of his death.

Zak Combe, 21, of Haslemere, died in the collision on the southbound carriageway near the Thursley junction in the early hours of 3 June.

Police say the van driver has been helping them with their inquiries and their investigations continue.

His family said their "lives collapsed" the moment police informed them.

Mr Combe died at the scene after he was struck as he walked along the London-to-Portsmouth route at about 04:00 BST on Saturday.

Surrey Police released a statement from Mr Combe's parents and brother.

They said: "Our lives collapsed on hearing a knock on the door from two police officers at 5am to be told that our gorgeous boy Zak had a sudden fatal roadside accident.

"He can never, ever be replaced and will never be forgotten. His laughter, his joy of life, smile and love for everyone... touched... so many - more than we could ever have imagined.

"The messages of support and love we have received since our lives stopped have been truly overwhelming."
