Parades have been held in towns and cities across Northern Ireland and in Limerick to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

In Dublin, over 500,000 people turned out to enjoy Ireland's largest St Patrick's Day parade.

The theme of the 2014 parade was "Let's Make History", honouring former High King of Ireland, Brian Boru.

It left Dublin's Parnell Square at midday, before making its way to St Patrick's Cathedral.

The largest parade in Northern Ireland was in Downpatrick, where organisers staged a re-enactment of St Patrick's arrival in Ireland.

Organisers expected over 30,000 spectators to attend.

The celebrations were organised by Down District Council.

In Armagh, 15,000 people were expected in the cathedral city to watch the parade.

The carnival procession formed part of the city's St Patrick's Festival.

The festival celebrated the best of Armagh's culture, music, song and dance.

In Londonderry, 600 participants took part in the parade which formed part of the city's weekend celebrations.

The parade was keeping with the title Music City, themed on music, magic and myth.
