Calling all sports fan.

A new year means a new sporting calendar and there are some real treats coming up in 2024.

The men's Euros, Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games are just some of the exciting tournaments to look forward to, alongside the usual annual events such as the Six Nations, Wimbledon and the FA Cup finals.

Let's take a closer look at some of the biggest ones to look out for.

The men's Euros take place across Germany between 14 June - 14 July.

The tournament will feature England and Scotland, with Wales also potentially taking part, if they win their two-play off matches in March.

England will face Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia in their group and are among the favourites to lift the trophy, having come runners-up at the last Euros.

Scotland take on hosts Germany in the opening game and also play Hungary and Switzerland in the group stages.

Summer Olympic Games

Just twelve days after the Euro 2024 final, the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games will take place on 26 July along the River Seine in the French capital, Paris.

The city will become only the second in the world, after London, to host three Summer Olympics - having previously hosted in 1900 and 1924.

Expect a jam packed schedule with around 10,500 athletes competing in more than 320 sporting events spread across 18 days - including some new additions such as the first ever appearance for breakdancing - while sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing will also feature.

Summer Paralympic Games

The Paralympic Games, which run from 28 August to 8 September, will also take place in Paris a few weeks later, bringing together nearly 4,500 of the world's best athletes with disabilities as they compete in 22 different sports.

Great Britain finished second in the medal table at the last Paralympics in Tokyo with 124 medals - 41 gold, 38 silver and 45 bronze.

Could they go one better and top the table in Paris?

Solheim Cup

The biggest event in women's golf - the Solheim Cup - will tee-off in September at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in the US state of Virginia.

The tournament is the women's equivalent of the Ryder Cup, and sees teams made of the best professional female golfers from the US and Europe competing against each other.

Team Europe narrowly won an historic third consecutive title in 2023 after tying 14-14 with the Americans, so it's all to play for in 2024.

America's Cup

The America's Cup, the oldest sailing competition in the world - dating back to 1851 - will be one of the last big major events to round off the year when it takes place in the autumn.

Team New Zealand will be trying to defend their title, having won the last America's Cup in 2021.

The race will take place in Barcelona in Spain and 2024's edition will also include the Youth America's Cup and, for the first time in the history of the competition, the Women's America's Cup.

Other big events

The World Indoor Athletics Championships take place in Glasgow in March, while the European Athletics Championships will be held in the Italian capital of Rome in June.

London is playing host to the Uefa Champions League final in 2024. The huge football event will be held at Wembley Stadium on 1 June.

Cricket fans can look forward to two T20 World Cups in 2024. The men's tournament will take place in the US and West Indies from 4-30 June and the women's event is being hosted in Bangladesh in September and October.
