Gold medal winning Paralympic GB rower Gregg Stevenson was celebrated by his home club in Salford this weekend.

You might remember before the Paralympics Gregg's sons Harry and Jack interviewed him on Newsround.

In Paris, Gregg and his doubles partner Lauren Rowles went on to win gold at the games.

And so, of course, his club wanted to celebrate!

Gregg learnt to row at Agecroft Rowing club in Salford, taking his first stroke with his coach Kevin Maynard in 2019.

He was then picked up by the British Rowing team and joined the squad training at their headquarters in Caversham.

However, an injury forced him to retire before the Tokyo Paralympics.

He thought his dream was over, but after a phone call from Lauren Rowles and GB Rowing he came back for another shot at gold in 2023.

Gregg said: "I didn't quite achieve it for Tokyo, but I learnt a lot from that. I learnt that this club was integral to me feeling confident and going on and delivering. "

I used to wear my Agecroft kit all the time down there, I really wanted to represent."

For Gregg, remembering where he started the sport was important in his journey to gold.

He said: 鈥淚 carried a bit of Agecroft all the way with me to the final. And, of course I showed them a bit of Northern Grit!"

Well done, Gregg!
