Tree of the Year 2024: Which of these trees will you be rooting for?

At around 1,200 years old, this is the oldest tree nominated for the award! It's a sessile oak and has a completely hollow centre.

The Woodland Trust have opened the votes for their annual Tree of the Year competition, where 12 tree-mendous nominees from across the UK are up for the award.

Members of the public can pick their favourite, with the winner crowned as the country's best tree and going on to represent the UK in the European Tree of the Year competition.

A list of 11 trees was put together by a panel of experts, with the final addition nominated by social media users bringing the total to 12.

Voting is open until 22 October, with the Woodland Trust announcing this year's winner on 29 October.
