Storm Ashley has hit the UK bringing strong winds and rain.

It's the first named storm of the season, and has caused travel problems and power outages across parts of the UK.

The Met Office - which monitors the UK's weather - gave amber and yellow weather warnings yesterday to parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with wind speeds of 70-81 mph recorded.

More than 100 flooding warnings have also been issued by the UK's Environment Agency, across parts of Scotland and England as a result of heavy rain and high tides.

Dozens of flights were cancelled at Belfast City Airport and Dublin Airport on Sunday, and ferry operator CalMac cancelled almost all of its Sunday sailings on the west coast of Scotland, cutting off services to the islands of Arran, Bute, Lewis and Harris.

Some trains in Scotland were cancelled, with speed restrictions in place on some lines - meaning trains are travelling slower for safety.

Thousands of homes in Northern Ireland lost power, after high winds damaged the electricity network.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has now managed to restore power back to more than 10,000 homes.

The Met office has said that Storm Ashley will move away from the UK on Monday, with the winds calming down again.
