St Andrew's Festival at Gorleston goes into its 32nd year from 26 October to 10 November.

Once again, there's a strong programme of recitals, concerts and talks which brings together national and local artists, writes Tony Mallion.

The festival, which is based at the parish church, was the brainchild of a late Gorleston vicar, the Rev Tony Clemens.

He decided to set up a celebration which would happen around St Andrew's Day on 30 November.

However, the first festival in 1969 was nearly the last when heavy snow led to the cancellation of some events.

Despite the weather, the festival captured people's imaginations and a number signed up to be patrons.

Chapter House home

The event moved to the end of October and by the next year it had a new base when the church's octagonal Chapter House opened.

Soon after a competitive festival was added - which is now held as a separate event in the spring - although a concert on this year's bill will feature two of its top musicians in concert (on Monday 4 November).

Varied programme

Events start at the Chapter House on Saturday 26 October, with a programme of Gershwin's tunes performed by the trio Red, Hot and Blue.

Among the highlights will be a visit to Lynn Grove High School by the county's resident military band, the Dragoon Guards on Saturday 2 November.

The Sheringham Shantymen make a return visit to the festival, as do the Charleston Chasers.

The fortnight ends with a service on Sunday 10 November at 6.30pm when the Bishops' Chaplain and 大象传媒 Radio Norfolk's Pause For Thought contributor, Rev Jan McFarlane, will preach and chat about her work.
