Watton

Watton high streetWatton is situated midway between East Dereham and Thetford and is home to more than 7,000 residents.

The Clock Tower of Watton was built in 1679 by Christopher Hey. The tower was built to hold a fire warning bell following the Great Fire of Watton that destroyed more than 60 properties just five years earlier.

Watton hosted a large RAF base for many years and this had a major effect on the town. The RAF station ended its days as a transport command base and as a radar station and much of it is now being developed into housing.

One of the most popular events held in Watton is the Wayland Show. The yearly agricultural show attracts thousands of people to the town where it hosts livestock, vintage cars and various displays.
