Today has been very interesting. It鈥檚 the day after the Jonathan
Shalit interview. I've been busy but I've been quite chilled out.
My next meeting is with Sir Tim Rice and this is
a big one for me and my musical. I can't wait. I'm going to get
a new outfit for it.
Good news: I got my job. My first night is Saturday
and I鈥檓 really looking forward to it.
Today I鈥檓 going to tell you a bit about my family.
Since my dad died, it鈥檚 changed quite a lot. Before
my dad died there was my brother, who's now 18, my mother, who's
now 40 and my dad, who was 35 when he died.
It was us four and we lived in Harleston near Diss
in a three-bedroomed house, and we were really happy.
Then my dad died in a car crash. I was nine years
old - mature for my age. Losing someone that close, it鈥檚 the hardest
thing ever. I can remember it like it was yesterday.
He'd gone out one night because he'd been going
through a lot of trouble. A doctor had given him a pill to help
him calm down. Then halfway through the night my dad went out in
the car. The next thing I know, the police are knocking on the door
and I was whisked over to my neighbour鈥檚 house.
My dad was in hospital with two broken legs, two
broken arms and on a life support machine. It was hard to look at:
tubes coming out of him, nurses and doctors.
I remember sitting there with him. I always recognised
him by his warm hands. That night, I can remember holding those
hands - those warm hands. I鈥檒l never forget that moment. The next
time I held them they were cold.
The next day my mum came home from the hospital
and I knew what had happened. On 7 November 1997 my dad died.
They鈥檇 switched off his life support machine. If
he had pulled though, he would have been so brain damaged that he
wouldn't have recognised any of his family and I think that would
have been even worse to cope with.
It was a hard time for the family and songwriting
and singing was an ultimate way out of it.
Then my mum met my stepdad and I really took a
liking to him. He was great. He had two daughters and we all got
really close and ending up living in Watton.
I love my family to pieces. I wouldn鈥檛 be where
I am today if it wasn鈥檛 for my family鈥檚 support. They鈥檙e the people
that I thank most in my whole life.
