At the time of her story, Carmel was based at Camphill Community, Glencraig, near Holywood in County Down. Camphill centres were established to teach, train and care for those with special needs and this was the first Camphill centre to be established in Ireland. There are now around 100 centres in almost 20 different countries all over the world with four in Northern Ireland
Today Carmel teaches and lives at Camphill Community, Mourne Grange, near Kilkeel in County Down. Mourne Grange was established in 1971 as the first adult community in Northern Ireland and is now home to more than 140 people, including adults with special needs who live and work together with co-workers and their families
Good friends at Camphill...
