Six Feet by Carolann North

We fight and we bicker, we bomb and we scare;

Kill women and children as if we don't care.

All for a land our fathers once knew;

Where freedom and justice tried to be true.

How free are we now? How worthy our cause?

How open our eyes? How drawn our claws?

Look in the mirror; examine your face;

We're of the same blood; we're of the same race.

I don't want a country; I don't want a nation.

I don't want to rule all of creation.

Just give me my six feet to lie when I'm gone;

It's all that I get, when I finally move on.

For under those six feet, I'll hear the cries

Of people who fought; of people who died.

They shout 鈥淭his is it? A small little plot;

A tiny space for our bodies to rot?鈥

鈥淭he blood that we shed drips red on our hands,

The noise resounds of the marching bands.

And yet we have nothing, it was all in vain;

Just six little feet to hold our remains.鈥
