Your comments on the cost of electricity

Ìý

Ronnie: "I've stopped using electricity for heat because the price is too high. It's gone up from £10 a week to £20. I bought a gas heater. And I'll only use electricity for cooking."

Ìý

Bobby: "I'm paying £55 a week on electricity for washing. A relative is living on her own. She is quite elderly and it costs her £60 a week to heat her home and cook.

Ìý

Ìý

Ìý

Michael - "I'm a pensioner and I pay electricity by direct debit. It used to be £19 a month, and they have now told me it will be £45 starting on the 15th November. This is a 110% increase."

Ìý

Diane - "My bill has gone up to on average £30 per week. I actually thought there was something wrong with my keypad. I checked the NIE website and it said the average yearly family bill paid by direct debit would be £585, I spend nearly that on a quarter alone."

Ìý

Sarah - "I have a family of four, I £10 in her key pad on monday and she has £2.72 left today."

Ìý

Clare - "I have a keypad and all this talk of saving money on your electricity prompted me to (contact) NIE and change it to Direct Debit. They told me I had spent £690 so far this year and it would cost her £80 a month. Unfortunately I can't afford this."

Ìý

Joe - "I'm spending at least a fiver a day on electricity on myself, my wife and two kids. This is £35 a week!"

Ìý

"My wife has arthritis so we have to keep the house nice and warm. It was £20-£25 a week - now it's £40 week!"

Ìý

"I'm a pensioner and I live on my own...I pay £100 a quarter for my electricity."

Ìý

John - "Until recently, I was paying roughly £10 a week for electricity - it has gone up to between £19 and £23 which is an increase of 70% and 80%"
