Thank you for sharing this history of the Coalisland Canal.
My family emigrated to the USA from Coalisland around 1880.
I've been there once, but I plan on returning for a visit
this summer.

Dear Readers, Thank you so much for this information. My grandfather,
I was told by my Mother, lived in Northern Ireland, and before
moving to the USA at the turn of the century; worked in the
coal mines. His name was James Thomas Muckian and having three
brothers who might have worked there too. I am interested
in dual citizenship in Ireland. Is there a way of obtaining
a list of the workers for the coal mine, so that I could show
that my Grandfather actually was there? It would be helpful
for me to have that information for my citizenship and also
a way of connecting me to my Grandfathers life. Thank you
so much.

I have just watched the news film on the closure of Coalisland
Coalmine. It was very interesting to watch as I was born in
1972 and remember my granny speaking about the mine.
I would love to speak to some of the people who worked there
as I am doing a project soon for university and would like
to find out more. If you worked there and wouldn't mind answering
some questions please let me know by posting a comment.
Many Thanks.

I recomend that all steps be taken to keep and maintain a
historic and useful facility that can be used to take dangerous
cargos off our roads, encourage tourism and provide jobs for
the community.
