We love... the sixtiesYou are in: North Yorkshire > We love NY > We love... the sixties > Groovy Radio York Groovy Radio York大象传媒 Radio York is going back to the 60s. A time when the minis were both skirts and cars, man first set foot on the moon (or did he?) and the music was swinging. We'll bring this explosive decade back to life. We want your memories too... How to listenListen to 大象传媒 Radio York: 103.7 FM, 95.5 FM and 104.3 FM plus 666 & 1260 MW and online. It was a decade of momentous change and 大象传媒 Radio York in association with York Castle Museum are celebrating this remarkable period. The museum has a brilliant collection of 1960s artefacts and these, along with donated items, have been incorporated into a fabulous new gallery at the museum. No stone will be left unturned as 大象传媒 Radio York looks at life in the 1960s. We're celebrating examples of iconic of sixties design. The skirts were short, the cars were small and just about everyone wanted to look like Twiggy or Cliff Richard! Even our homes were at the cutting edge of fashion thanks to designers such as Terence Conran. Must have accessories included lava lamps, and perhaps the occasional Warhol or Hockney on the wall! Was it really the swinging sixties? It was supposed to be a decade of free love, drugs and groupies. Feminism took root and the development of the contraceptive pill freed women from the kitchen sink. Or did it? The sixties witnessed some of the biggest technological advances ever. Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, satellites were sent into orbit and on the TV, Tomorrow's World brought us a glimpse of the future and it was in glorious technicolour! The world was changing rapidly. Countries had nuclear weapons pointing at each other and we were more aware than ever of the effect of American politics and culture on us 'over the pond' in little Blighty. We all mourned over the deaths of John F Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Martin Luther King. Time saving appliances and convenience food made the lives of countless housewives much easier. No longer did they have to wash clothes by hand, the automatic washing machine in the kitchen did that and who on earth had time to peel and mash potatoes when all you had to do was add water to Smash! The world became a smaller place as we started taking package holidays abroad and for those of us who preferred to stay at home, the holiday camp was the place to go. Filey was home to the biggest Butlins in the UK. Probably the biggest influence of all in the sixties was the soundtrack. People abandoned 大象传媒 Radio in droves in favour of the new offshore pirate stations. We'd never heard music like it before. Bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Move and The Animals burst onto the scene and popular music was never the same again. We'll be playing some of the best the sixties has to offer. Neil Foster hosts a special Sixties Soundtracks with music from the films and shows of the 1960s as well as modern productions which pay homage to the sixties. Dr Rock, in his own inimitable style, spins the discs of artists such as Elvis, Louis Armstrong, The Rolling Stones and many many more. Bob Preedy pulls on his stetson and takes us back to country music of the 1960s. There will be something for everyone as 大象传媒 Radio York swings and grooves its way through the decade of love. Make sure you don't miss a minute! Tune your transistor dial to 103.7, 104.3, 95.5FM. 666 and 1260khz, or if you've really dragged yourself into the 21st century you can listen online. last updated: 12/03/2008 at 16:54 Have Your SayShare your memories of the 1960s...
