Architecture Week is a celebration of the built environment and the way that good design can enrich the way we live.

Highlights of events in Nottinghamshire include a chance to take a look inside two of the country's most unique and 'green' living environments and a theatrical walking tour looking at Watson Fothergill's influence on the Nottingham skyline.

Exhibition : Living for the Future - The Hockerton Housing Project (HHP)
HHP is a unique earth sheltered, self-sufficient ecological housing scheme. Residents generate clean energy, collect water and recycle waste.

On Sunday, 27th June 2004 the residents are inviting members of the public to come on a personal tour of the site and one of the homes. The tour will be suitable for anyone interested in finding out more about environmental living.

Tour : The Life of an Architect
A promenade theatre architectural walking tour that will describe, through the story of the buildings, the philosophy, hopes, successes and frustrations of an architect, how often the architect faces disappointment and increasingly demolition of cherished work. The chosen architect is Watson Fothergill, the location central Nottingham. Written by documentary theatre and TV writer Michael Eaton, the piece will be performed by the actor Patrick Wildgust in two tours running on the same day.

Dates : Saturday, 19th June 2004 at 11.00 and 15.00.

Tour : Nottingham Ecohome - Refurbishment for the 21st century
This Victorian villa has been refurbished in a low energy and ecological way. It is the architect's family home, a showcase of green features and an example of best practice. Features include super-insulation solutions, rainwater recovery, low flush loos and foul waste composting, solar hot water and wood burning boiler and a variety of natural / non toxic finishes. Great for ideas and inspiration.

The owners of the property will be opening the doors to the public for one weekend during architects week.

Dates : Saturday, 19th from 10.00am until 18.00 and Sunday, 20th June from 11.00am until 17.00.

Exhibition : Hide and Seek, Nottingham Trent University
Nottingham Trent University's Interior Architecture course is exhibiting final year students' artwork, which brings out the elusive and the intuitive from their final design projects.

The art pieces will be placed around the Waverley Building on the City Campus, enticing visitors into some exciting explorations during architecture week.

Talk : System and Design
A half-day symposium where speakers will present their approach and views regarding the use of unconventional processes for the design, building and procurement of architecture.

An exhibition of photographs by Neville Smith looking at the arrival of the Nottingham tram.

Two rare showings by the filmmaker Patrick Keiller. Patrick will be there to introduce both films.

This event will investigate the ways in which cutting-edge thinking in the education and practice of architectural design can shape the new generation of professionals designing our spaces.
