Eversince Elvis started wriggling his hips photographers have been on hand to capture the moment.

Many pictures have gone on to be as famous as the stars themselves. Remember Bowie and Mick Ronson captured on stage in their Spiders From Mars days?

Well, images by some of the biggest photographers in the rock world are about to be displayed in Nottingham.

Contributions from Mick Rock, Gered Mankowitz and Ross Halfin will be among those exhibited at The Park Rock residential development, Castle Boulevard from 16th - 22nd June.

It's the first time the exhibition will have been seen outside London. Once the Nottingham run's completed it'll tour the world.

Those pictured include The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

The exhibition, entitled Thirty Flight Rock, will be open to the public from Wednesday 16th - Tuesday 22nd June from midday until 5pm. It's free to get in.

Pete Townshend by 漏 Colin Jones

Pete Townshend by Colin Jones 漏 "This shot was in Pete's London flat in his bedroom, which had just the bed, guitars and sound systems. He had very few clothes. The broken guitars were hanging everywhere in the flat like trophies. There were so many that he once offered me one. It would have been worth a fortune today, but I declined.
He said nothing when I was shooting and just thought the whole thing was a bit of a bore. It was 1966 and you still had amazing access to the musicians, who were not yet megastars surrounded by PRs and minders."

Rod Stewart by 漏 David Steen

Rod Stewart by David Steen 漏"This picture of Rod Stewart in bed in his Berverly Hills house in 1976 amused me as here was one of the biggest bedders of ladies, holding a pussycat. There's always something very personal about someone's bedroom and I just thought: how women seeing the photo would love to have swapped places with that cat! Rod looked menacing and teasing all at once. He looked tanned and good and it was all a tease. This shot was one of many I took in 30-40 locations around the house over a week. Was Rod Stewart an easy model? Usually he was helpful, but he had his days."
