Disabled student diaries 2009

´óÏó´«Ã½ Ouch! followed three disabled freshers over their first few weeks at university in October 2009.

Andrea, Charlotte and Lee express their feelings about independent living, studying and socialising. With videos and weekly diaries, our trio lift the lid on how life can be much more challenging as a disabled student.

Charlotte

Charlotte is quadriplegic, has employed 3 24-hour carers at uni and is keen to break free from her parents. But has she taken on too much all at once?

Lee

Lee has Asperger and Tourette syndromes, making social life and studying at uni a little more 'interesting'. And find out why he's obsessed with sign language despite not being deaf.

Andrea

Andrea is visually impaired and still awaiting her Disabled Students' Allowance; how will she study without a computer? She lives at home with her parents, will it affect her social life already made difficult through lack of eye contact?

The Twins' Top Tips

Disabled twins Laura and Judith have been at uni for a couple of years now and have hot uni tips they need to share.

Independent Living

Adam Hyland, Disability Officer at the National Union of Students (NUS) shares his experiences of independent living and university life.
