Fame Academy finished on a high last night as 6.9 million people voted in the highest ever poll for a 大象传媒 show.

3.5 million people voted Scottish David Sneddon (24) as the winner of the biggest prize in showbiz history, narrowly beating Sinead Quinn from Northern Ireland.

The Fame Academy student, who has always dreamed of stardom said: "I can't believe I've won. I never dreamt this could happen. Thanks to my parents; the teachers and everyone who supported and voted for me."

David now secures a million pound record deal with Mercury Records and the lifestyle of a star for a year which includes a luxury flat in London, a top of the range sports car, champagne and flowers, a cameo role in a major film, a personal shopper, a personal fitness trainer, membership to a private members club and a holiday in the caribbean on Concorde.

All this in the week that the Fame Academy album went platinum in three days and sales for the tour have gone through the roof, with nine new tour dates added for next year.

Sinead Quinn (22) was the runner up with 3.4 million votes.

She said: "I enjoyed every single moment of it and I couldn't have lost to a better person. It has been a fantastic night."

In third place was Lemar Obika. The 24-year-old from North London said: "How could I top performing with Lionel Richie? It's been the highlight of my time in the Academy. I thoroughly enjoyed performing with two great friends tonight."

Fame Academy, which has been running for ten weeks on 大象传媒 ONE, 大象传媒 Choice, C大象传媒 and 大象传媒i, opened its doors with 12 students under the watchful eye of headteacher Richard Park.

David Sneddon replaced Naomi Roper when she could no longer continue due to problems with her throat.

Sinead Quinn was voted in as the twelfth student by members of the public on the opening show.

After ten weeks of intensive training from vocal coach Carrie Grant, choreographer Kevin Adams, singer/songwriter teacher Pam Sheyne, only three students remained with a chance of winning tonight.
