Restoration
returns to 大象传媒 TWO
Last
summer Restoration fever swept the UK when 大象传媒 TWO launched a landmark
campaign where viewers were given the chance to save one of 30 threatened
historic buildings.
The
nation decided at a magnificent live final from the Tower of London
in mid-September that the Victoria Baths in Manchester
should be restored.
In
a special edition of Restoration: What Happened Next
on Friday 2 January, 大象传媒 TWO at 9.00pm, presenter Griff Rhys Jones
returns to Victoria Baths where the 拢3.5 million pounds raised
during the series is set to go towards the complete restoration
of their Turkish Baths.
The
Baths have also been under royal scrutiny. Having endorsed the aims
of Restoration and delivered a message of support during the final,
The Prince of Wales visits the winning building and meets up with
Griff and the many supporters of the Baths.
Griff
also looks at all of the 30 buildings that were featured in the
series and discovers what progress has been made with their own
personal campaigns for restoration.
Viewers
will see the triumphs and disasters that have beset the buildings
and how the nation responded to the call to arms to save Britain's
heritage.
Griff
reveals how each building benefited from the public exposure of
their plight and also highlights the massive impact that the Restoration
campaign had on the local communities around them.
There
is triumph for Moulton Windmill and many of the
other buildings. Moulton Windmill has received a Heritage Lottery
Fund (HLF) grant and all that remains is to find the money to replace
the sails. They have come up with an ingenious plan...
But
one building's plight is looking bleak. Supporters reveal that unless
a viable financial plan is found, the once-grand country home, Bank
Hall, may face demolition.
Meanwhile
back at the winning building, Blaise Tapp, from the Manchester Evening
News, who was inside The Victoria Baths as the result of the Restoration
final was announced in September, speaks of an atmosphere similar
to winning the World Cup where passers by and motorists descended
on the building late into the night to offer congratulations.
Using
local newspaper headlines and reports from regional 大象传媒 Television
and Radio newsrooms, this special edition of Restoration tells the
story of how 大象传媒 TWO's Restoration campaign changed people's lives
forever during the summer of 2003.
