Mortal
Engines announced as Blue Peter Book of the Year 2003
The
debut novel of writer Philip Reeve has scooped the Blue Peter Book
of the Year Award, to be broadcast on C大象传媒 ONE on Friday 19 December
2003.
Mortal
Engines is a tale which is set in a future where cities are on the
move, vast lumbering structures that roam a ruined world in search
of smaller cities to consume.
Tom
and Hester have, for different reasons, been thrown out of London
and they both want to return.
For
Tom, his faith in authority will be shattered by the series of adventures
which ensue whilst Hester has her own game plan, and her own reasons
for revenge.
Mortal
Engines triumphed in the category The Book I Couldn't Put Down,
as well as winning the overall award for the Blue Peter Book of
the Year.
Philip
was overjoyed at his victory and on receiving his award at the ceremony
at Television Centre in London, said:
"It
is a huge honour to be short-listed among four such great writers.
I am amazed, astonished, thrilled and overwhelmed to be the winner
and would like to thank the young judges on the Blue Peter panel."
The
adult judging panel had a busy summer poring over hundreds of children's
paperbacks published in the last year to come up with a shortlist
of fifteen.
As
well as the adults, there was a panel of nine young judges who won
their place on the jury by writing to Blue Peter saying why they
should be picked to be a judge. The search for junior judges brought
in over 10,000 entries.
They
were also responsible for deciding the winners in the following
categories: The Best Book to Read Aloud, The Book I Couldn't Put
Down and The Best Book With Facts.
As
well as unveiling all the winners, the Blue Peter Book Awards also
reveals the fave reads of celebrities Amanda Holden, Sanjeev Bhaskar,
Rageh Omaar, Michelle Ryan, Maureen Lipman, Darren Campbell and
Matt Jay from Busted.
