The Schemes

DJ, 1Xtra

Are you the cream of up-and-coming black music DJs?

If you've got what it takes, know your stuff but have never DJ'd on legal radio before, this could be your chance to get in front of our panel of 1Xtra DJs including the likes of G. Money, Seani B, Ras Kwame and Letitia S.D. and to prove yourself to 1Xtra listeners worldwide.

We're offering the opportunity to host 1Xtra's live Sunday night programme, Xtra Talent, for four weeks and to co-host a specialist show.

You'll spend a week at 1Xtra and Radio 1 sitting in on shows, working alongside production teams, attending playlist meetings and getting involved in black music's hottest digital station.

To enter

On CD/audio cassette/mini-disc, record links for your ideal playlist of six tracks and explain, in no more than one minute, why you think you could cut it as a 1Xtra DJ. Aim to demonstrate your knowledge of 1Xtra and its style.

Send it, along with the entry form attached, to DJ 1Xtra, PO Box 1X, London W1A. Check out for rules.

What happens next

May - Shortlisting
June - Shortlist auditions at the 1Xtra station
July to December - Six finalists take up month-long contracts at 1Xtra

Entries by 30 April 2004.

Writers, 大象传媒 Radio/TV, Wales

Are you a writer with a great story to tell or just a great storyteller? If you've got a story up your sleeve, we want to hear it.

It could be a figment of your imagination or your own take on a real event: funny, tragic or bizarre, long, short or medium-sized, anything goes.

But it must have a beginning, middle and end and be fresh and intriguing.

If you're based in Wales, this is a fantastic opportunity to get your story considered for commission for 2W (digital TV service for Wales), Radio Wales or Radio Cymru or get onto a five-day digital story-telling workshop, where the winning stories will also be published on the Capture Wales website - .

To enter

Write an outline of your story in no more than 500 words (English or Welsh).

To enter you must be over 18 years and living or working in Wales.

Please send it along with the entry form at the back of this brochure to The Writers' Unit, 大象传媒 Wales, Broadcasting House, Llandaff, Cardiff CF5 2YQ.

Music Presenter, Radio 3

Based in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you're into music in a big way, the more varied, the better.

It could be jazz or world but you definitely have a passion for classical and an urge to share it.

You don't have to have formal qualifications, more a good knowledge of classical music, maybe you've learnt an instrument or sung in a choir.

Up for grabs are three-month contracts in Scotland/London or Northern Ireland/London that could work alongside your current job.

There's training on presenting, writing and interviewing plus hands-on experience, culminating in you presenting an entire classical concert for Radio 3.

To enter

Imagine you're presenting a CD-based programme like Morning on 3, CD Masters or In Tune and record your own brief intros to three pieces of classical music on CD, audio cassette or mini-disc.

Then, in no more than 250 words, tell us about your enthusiasm for music, it could be your favourite composers or musical pieces, your views on a particular event or area of classical music but also what you'd bring to Radio 3.

To enter you must be over 18 years old.

Send your recording and words, along with an entry form, to: Music Broadcasters, 大象传媒 Radio 3, Room 4119, Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London W1A 1AA.
