The presenters of Coast

Coast - a major new series on 大象传媒 TWO every Friday and Sunday from 22 July at 9.00pm

Introduction

The 大象传媒 is reawakening the nation's love affair with its coastal heritage in an entertaining and ambitious exploration of the entire UK coastline as part of SeaBritain 2005.

Coast, a 13-part series, tours the entire coastline of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, while a team of five experts, led by geographer Nicholas Crane, explore a wealth of fascinating human stories through a mixture of expert comment, contemporary storytelling and computer-generated images.

Including marine wildlife, life on a nuclear submarine, rebuilding the Titanic using computer images, the story behind the first Butlins holiday camp and the birth of the Severn Bore - the unique character of the UK's coastal communities is celebrated through history, zoology, archaeology and anthropology.

Writer and historian Neil Oliver looks at the human stories behind the history of the coast; zoologist Miranda Krestovnikoff is the guide beneath the waves; anthropologist Dr Alice Roberts looks at what actually 'makes up' the coastline; and archaeologist Mark Horton digs up the hidden histories along the UK's familiar shores.

Working closely with SeaBritain, the Open University and other partner organisations, the series is a call to action for everyone to get out and about and enjoy the coast.

A series of 39 walks have been devised around the country and, of these, 12 are interactive walks and can be accessed via a mobile phone.

In collaboration with external partners, a series of walking events across Great Britain and Northern Ireland are planned too. These will help the nation discover its contemporary coastline in all its diversity.

Join 大象传媒 TWO as it finds its sea legs and rediscovers the shoreline of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The series is a pan-大象传媒 production with programmes made by 大象传媒 Birmingham, 大象传媒 Northern Ireland, 大象传媒 Scotland and 大象传媒 Wales, with additional material produced by the 大象传媒's Natural History Unit in Bristol.

Series Editor - Gill Tierney; Executive Producer - Gary Hunter; Series Producer - Steve Evanson.
