Introduction


´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2 heads to Aberdeen for a week in October, bringing a variety of star names, presenters and programmes to the city.

Ìý

Radio 2 Live in Aberdeen runs from 1 to 8 October and is being supported by Aberdeen City Council through the City Growth Fund Energising Aberdeen programme.

Ìý

Among the stars performing are Texas, Natalie Imbruglia, Moby, Jools Holland, Mick Hucknall, The Tears, KT Tunstall, Hard-Fi, Tony Christie, Gretchen Peters, Barbara Dickson, Michael McGoldrick, Karine Polwart and Gavin DeGraw.

They are performing exclusive sets, from venues around the city, in a week of live music ranging from popular to folk, country and classical.

Ìý

Tickets to all these events are free.

Ìý

Radio 2 presenters Terry Wogan, Dermot O'Leary, Jeremy Vine, Mark Radcliffe, Bob Harris and Mike Harding broadcast their programmes from the city and Ken Bruce presents an edition of Friday Night Is Music Night, featuring the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra.

As part of Sold On Song — Radio 2's initiative celebrating the art of songwriting — Mick Hucknall of Simply Red gives an exclusive insight into his work, performing some of his songs and talking about how they came to be.

In association with Radio 2's Sold on Song, The Performing Right Society (PRS) presents a series of Demo To Limo themed events for those wanting to learn more about getting ahead in the music industry.

Speakers from PRS and the music industry are on hand with invaluable advice on how to make a career in music.

Lesley Douglas, Controller of Radio 2, says: "This is a strong line-up of talent to bring to the Granite City.

"It reflects the network's diversity in terms of musical coverage, and you can be assured that these artists are at the very top of their profession.

"We are extremely grateful for our collaboration with Aberdeen City Council, who have ensured that this week of on and off-air activity from Radio 2 is going to be held in Scotland for the first time."

Rita Stephen, Head of Economic Development at Aberdeen City Council, said: "We are delighted to be working with Radio 2 to bring Live in Aberdeen to the North-east of Scotland.

"This event is a unique week-long opportunity for the citizens of Aberdeen, and the wider city region, to enjoy live performances from well-known entertainers.

"Live in Aberdeen is a key milestone in Aberdeen's event calendar and it is of prime importance that the city council lends its full support to free entertainment for all to enjoy."

The Radio 2 website – bbc.co.uk/radio2 – will feature full details of the week's events plus photos of the artists performing live, audio highlights, quizzes, competitions, on-air details and the opportunity to listen to the shows as they're broadcast live (and for seven days after transmission via the Radio Player).
