Planet Earth

Planet Earth on Radio 4

Prior to the transmission of Planet Earth, Nature on 大象传媒 Radio 4 goes behind the scenes and hears some of the incredible stories in the making of this epic series.

Presenter Paul Evans hears about the hazardous and extreme conditions the production team encountered whilst filming. He also learns about the unique access the team have been granted, enabling them to film things never before caught on camera.

Paul talks to Alastair Fothergill, executive producer for the series, who describes the structure of the series and the formidable technology involved which was specially developed for the series.

Cameraman Doug Allen recalls how unique and privileged access gave him the opportunity to film a polar bear and her cubs as they emerge from their den.

Producer Huw Cordey recounts what life was like living deep underground in complete darkness for six days. The reward: some of the most stunning crystal formations in the world.

And Cameraman Gavin Thurston shares his rather painful encounter with a giant swarm of stinging bees.

Planet Earth promises to be a breathtaking and awe-inspiring look at the planet - the stories behind the camera are just as remarkable.
