Coast sets sail for a second series on 大象传媒 TWO

"Britain's love affair with the seashore has been rekindled by a 大象传媒 series that has become this year's surprise hit" - The Times, 3 August 2005

After the success of Coast and demands from the audience for more places to be visited and stories to be told, 大象传媒 TWO begins filming a new series later this month.

Last summer Coast reawakened the nation's love affair with the coastline, and the series has been nominated for two Bafta Awards.

This new series - which will be on air later this year - goes back to the coast to explore new secrets and stories that add to the unique picture that is being created of the coastline in the British Isles.

Steve Evanson, Coast series producer, says: "The last series only scratched the surface of the many amazing stories and extraordinary characters that our coastline has.

"We were constantly being asked by viewers to return to tell the untold stories of coastal areas that we'd already been to, and to go and visit the bits that we had missed, so that's what we're doing."

Coast celebrates the unique character of the British Isles, featuring stories about the people, wildlife and events that make our coastal communities what they are, and the Coast team of experts all return for the new series.

After Nick Crane's circumnavigation of the United Kingdom in the last series, this year Neil Oliver takes over as the main presenter.

In each programme Neil takes viewers on a journey along a stretch of the British Isles coastline, and together with Nick, Dr Alice Roberts, Miranda Krestovnikoff and Mark Horton, they investigate the coast of the British Isles as it is today, explore its heritage, and look at the profound and surprising relationships that we have with the coast.

Steve Evanson adds: "The experts will be re-visiting old favourite parts of the coastline, but will also be exploring new places, including parts of the Shetland Isles, The Channel Islands and Ireland.

"We already have stories that we had wanted to cover in the last series but simply didn't have time, and we have stories that viewers have contacted us about as a result of the last series, but we always want more.

"If people want to contact us with their stories about the coast, we'd love to hear from them."

Through a mixture of expert comment, contemporary storytelling and computer-generated images, Coast tells a wealth of fascinating stories illustrating life as it is today, and as it was in the past.

As with the last series, the new series of Coast is a co-production with the Open University. The organisation continues to provide expert knowledge and advice on the various subjects covered in the series.

Dr George Revill, senior lecturer in geography at the Open University, says: "The Open University is happy to be part of the second series of Coast.

"Not only can we help to explain in more detail some of the many fascinating stories the journey will uncover but to also guide viewers who watch the programmes and feel inspired to learn more for themselves."

The Discover Your Coast walks created to tie in with the first series of Coast are available from the 大象传媒 Where I Live sites.
