Introduction - Foreword from Anna Carragher,
Controller, 大象传媒 Northern Ireland
"I'm delighted to introduce 大象传媒
Northern Ireland's autumn 2006
schedule - it's a rich and varied mix
which we hope will provide something
for all tastes.
听
"Our aim is to make a
range of programmes which celebrate
and explore our diversity, which will
make us laugh, make us cry and make
us think.
听
"This autumn's crop of programmes looks at
many aspects of life in Northern Ireland. It
explores our beautiful and varied
environment and the art and music it has
inspired.
听
"It's crowded with stories about our
people, from van men to lion keepers, from
Steve Aiken, the Ulsterman who commands
a nuclear submarine to the veteran actor
and writer, James Ellis.
听
"A whole host of programmes looks back
on our history, the forces and people who
made Northern Ireland what it is, ranging
from the seminal events at the beginning of
the 17th century, the Flight of the Earls and
the first large-scale Scottish settlement in
Down and Antrim to the remarkable story
of Belfast City Hall as it celebrates its
centenary.
听
"We also remember some of the many
people from here who have left their mark
on the world; Colonel Tim Collins tells the
remarkable story of the Ulster generals who
won the war in Africa and Egypt in 1941
and 1942 and Dickie Best remembers his
son George with love and tenderness.
听
"Through the autumn we have all our usual,
great music in big events like Proms in the
Park and the Tennent's Vital Concert,
returning comedy series including the Blame
Game and a brand new unmissable
animation of Gerry Anderson's real-life radio
moments as well of course as news and
current affairs - 大象传媒 Newsline, Spotlight,
Hearts and Minds, Let's Talk and the Politics
Show.
听
"I hope you enjoy all the programmes
from 大象传媒 Northern Ireland in the coming
months."
