NEC to host the live awards event on 10 December 2006
听
For the first time in the distinguished 53-year history of 大象传媒 Sports Personality of the Year the show will be held outside London and the general public will be invited to take part in the experience.
听
The 2006 awards will be held at Birmingham NEC and will be covered live on 大象传媒 ONE on Sunday 10 December.
听
Limited space inside 大象传媒 Television Centre in London has meant it has not been possible to mount a major event for the general public as well as the sportsmen and women who attend the annual ceremony.
听
However, the move to the NEC will allow greater public access and for the first time members of the general public will be able to enjoy the unique Sports Personality of the Year Awards event.
听
At least 3,000 public tickets will go on sale from the NEC box office at 9.00am on Monday 16 October priced at 拢25 per ticket.
听
Updated Monday 16 October: tickets have now sold out.
听
No profits will be made from these tickets with all money going towards the cost of staging the event.
听
The box office number for tickets is 0870 730 0142.

There will also be a number of hospitality tables made available through the sports governing bodies, to enable a wider representation from the world of sport.
听
Money raised from these hospitality tables will also go towards staging the event.

Roger Mosey, 大象传媒 Director of Sport, said: "This is a landmark decision for 大象传媒 Sports Personality of the Year as not only is it unparalleled that we are heading out of London but thousands of sports fans are also going to have the chance to come and see the show for the first time.
听
"We're delighted to be heading to Birmingham as it was a clear choice for the 2006 Awards. The city has a superb pedigree for sport having staged more major sporting championships than any other European city in the last four years.
听
"And we're very much looking forward to this year's main award too as it's a very open contest where there's no obvious winner."
听
Programme and voting details will be announced nearer the time.
