Living for the weekend - Radio Ulster gets fresh
|
大象传媒 Radio Ulster is getting fresh at the weekend by refreshing its weekend
schedule on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
听
From tomorrow, Friday 27 October 2006, each weekend evening will have its own strong,
individual identity and theme.
听
Radio Ulster listeners can get their weekend under way with a new Friday
night line-up designed especially for those who seriously enjoy their music.
听
Saturday nights will cater for those who are passionate about Northern Ireland
music, languages and culture.
听
And Sunday evenings will offer listeners the
chance to wind down the weekend with an evening of quality music.
听
These exciting changes to the weekend schedule have been made to give
each evening its own identity, making listening to the station even
more enjoyable - indeed, making navigation around the station easier and
more natural for listeners who are leading increasingly busy lives.
听
Susan Lovell, Head of Radio Ulster, says: "These changes form the next stage
of our on-going programme of schedule change and refreshment.
听
"The weekend
evening schedule will now be easier to navigate as there will be three clear
zones of listening for the audience and we will be able to more readily match
the mood of our listeners who lead busy lives.
听
"The changes come, as always, in response to what our listeners want and need.
听
"They will be offered programming at a time of day which matches their mood and
availability to listen, and we will be giving them our renewed commitment to a
range of specialist music programmes at the weekend."
听
Friday nights on Radio Ulster are now for all those listeners who take
enjoying music seriously.
听
Music lovers can now kick-start their weekends to a
soundtrack of everything from Johnny Cash to The Clash, as McLean's Country joins forces with Across The Line to make Friday nights essential for quality
music.
听
The music starts playing on Friday nights at 8.00pm with McLean's Country, which
moves from Saturday nights to its new home of Friday nights from 27 October.
听
Across The Line, with Stuart Bailie playing everything from alternative to
Americana, then follows at 10.00pm.
听
Saturday nights, from 28 October, on Radio Ulster celebrate Northern
Ireland music, language and culture.
听
Saturday night starts with Brian Mullen presenting 颁补蝉肠丑濒谩谤 at 6.00pm. Presented
in both Irish and English, 颁补蝉肠丑濒谩谤 sees Brian play all sorts of music, from
roots and trad to pop and soul.
听
颁补蝉肠丑濒谩谤 is followed by Ulster Scots programme A Kist O Wurds at 7.00pm.
听
Presented
by Liam Logan, A Kist O Wurds offers plenty of music, poetry, prose and crack
from Liam and Ulster Scots people from across Northern Ireland.
听
Next up on Saturday nights at 7.30pm is the latest series of Strike Up The Band, with Joe McKee offering the best locally-produced band music - with bands from
all over Northern Ireland playing everything from film tunes to classical
pieces.
听
Then, at 8.00pm, Folk Club moves from 10.00pm on Saturdays, with Colum
Sands offering the best in traditional and contemporary folk music and songs,
with live studio guests, live performances and updates on what's happening in
the world of folk music.
听
And at 10.00pm, bringing Saturday nights on Radio Ulster to a close, is a new
bilingual version of the popular programme The Late Show, with Blas' Karen
Kirby offering some Irish chat while playing all her favourite tracks.
听
Sunday nights offer Radio Ulster listeners the chance to wind down
the weekend and ease their way into a new week with a line-up which is sure to
relax listeners.
听
From Sunday 29 October, the new Sunday evening line-up will deliver the best
in jazz, classical music and easy listening as Walter Love's Jazz Club moves
from 9.00pm to the earlier time of 7.00pm; at 8.00pm, a new-look Sounds Classical with
Marie-Louise Muir moves from Friday nights to its new home; and John Bennett puts the weekend to bed with Sunday Club at 10.00pm.
听
Susan Lovell says: "We hope listeners enjoy our new weekend evening schedule.
Add to the changes our outstanding and expert presenters and I hope the result
will be a new mix of programmes that will delight and surprise."
