Lilies

Lilies by Heidi Thomas - a new drama series for ´óÏó´«Ã½ One: Liverpool, 1920. Three girls on the edge of womanhood, a world on the brink of change

Regular characters

Billy Moss (Daniel Rigby)

Ìý

Billy (21) is his father's only surviving son, and he has been raised an Orangeman. Athletic, musical, and devoted to his sisters, he has a sardonic wit, but feels things deeply.

Ìý

Prior to 1914, he worked as bellboy on the famous Cunard liner Aquitania, a glamorous job that brought the family prestige.

Ìý

However, wartime naval service has left him battling more than one demon, and he must struggle in his quest for love, and self-love.

Ìý

Father Melia (Scot Williams)

Ìý

A young Catholic priest from a working class Liverpool background, Father Melia struggles to serve his unruly parish alone.

Ìý

Haunted by his tragic past, he is drawn to the warm, rumbustuous Moss clan and - although deeply mistrusted by Dadda - becomes a friend and confidant to each of the sisters in turn.

Ìý

Deeply moral and instinctively wise, he never wavers in his commitment to his God. But he is not perfect and his emotional hunger makes him prone to dangerous mistakes.

Ìý

Scot Williams' credits include Guy Richie's Lock Stock, Soldier Soldier, Liverpool 1, Nice Guy Eddie and Hillsborough.

Ìý

Mr Brazendale (Stephen Moyer)

Ìý

A complex and sensitive man, Richard Brazendale (35) inherited his father's hugely successful shipping business when he was in his twenties. Wealthy and respected, he lives in the thrall of his beautiful and fragile wife, Madeleine.

Ìý

When Madeleine's obsessions spiral out of control, his marriage becomes an instrument of torture. His struggle to balance being a good husband with being a good man leads him to the brink of self-destruction.

Ìý

Stephen Moyer's previous credits include Ny-Lon, Casualty, Men Only and Peak Practice.

Ìý

Frank Gadney (Iain McKee)

Ìý

At the beginning of the series, Frank (21) is not especially popular with the Moss sisters. He has a loud laugh, Ruby's job, and an embarrassing grandad - not to mention a shameful past as an army pastry chef.

Ìý

But he has a secret weapon – his capacity for love.

Ìý

As events unfold, and the family is propelled towards catastrophe, Frank is revealed as a stronger and better man than anyone ever suspected.

Ìý

Iain McKee's previous credits include Burn It, Conviction, The Parole Officer, The Bill and Shameless.
