The Radio 3 Awards For World Music are organised in partnership with WOMEX, fRoots, Songlines, the Rough Guides and event producers Serious. The awards compilation CD is produced by Union Square Music.
Ìý
The nominations for the awards are chosen by the delegates to WOMEX, the World Music Expo. The 2,000 or so delegates at this annual event each have a vote in all of the awards categories, except for the Album Of The Year and the Audience Award.
Ìý
In addition, music specialists at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ World Service choose one nomination in four of the five geographical categories. All of the nominations are then reviewed by the Radio 3 Awards For World Music jury (details of which can be found at bbc.co.uk/radio3) who choose the winning acts.
Ìý
There are two categories in which the jury has no say. The Album Of The Year is voted on by a panel of critics assembled by fRoots magazine. The Audience Award is chosen by the general public, who vote for their own choices from the overall nominations list. It is the one award which is only revealed on the day of the Awards Poll Winners Concert.
