Michael Palin's New Europe

Ìý

In all his travels Michael Palin has ignored his own backyard – Europe. In his new series, however, Michael explores a very special corner of Europe: the mysterious chunk that was once off limits behind the Iron Curtain.

Ìý

From Albania in the south to Estonia in the north, by road, rail, river, sailboat, barge, bike, tank and donkey, Michael journeys through Eastern Europe's most enticing locations, meeting the countries' movers and shakers, as well as the average man-on-the-Budapest-omnibus.

Ìý

The mountains may not be quite Himalayan nor the wastes Saharan, but within this concentrated area Michael discovers that the sights and sounds, tastes and textures are intense and overwhelming.

Ìý

Viewers who know Spain, France and Italy, and think they've "done" Europe, will most likely be tempted to try Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Poland, once they see the rich and fascinating ingredients of Michael Palin's New Europe.
