The Invisibles: (L-R) Hedley Huthwaite (Dean Lennox Kelly), Maurice Riley (Anthony Head) and Syd Woolsey (Warren Clarke)

The Invisibles

Characters

Maurice Riley (Anthony Head)
A safe cracker and a house breaker, Maurice set out to become the finest locksman of his generation.

Ìý

Syd Woolsey (Warren Clarke)
Maurice is Syd's rock and that creates its own stresses for Maurice, of which Syd is well aware. But, by the same token, Syd knows he'd lay down his life for his friend. Syd is an expert on alarms and a brilliant getaway driver (even though he has no driving licence).

Ìý

Hedley Huthwaite (Dean Lennox Kelly)
Hedley's been out of prison for six months. Since then he's promised his wife, Helen (Mina Anwar), a new start – an honest life. So, they have taken over The Hougoumont [Pub], which Helen thinks is their new beginning. Unbeknown to her, however, Hedley has other plans. Headley becomes the look-out and the muscle for The New Invisibles.

Ìý

Barbara Riley (Jenny Agutter)
Barbara is an ex-model and still beautiful. She met the handsome, witty, rather manic Maurice (Anthony Head) at a party and soon discovered that he was a crook. Rather than throw up her hands in horror, she preferred to make the best of it.

Ìý

Helen Huthwaite (Mina Anwar)
Helen knows just what Hedley (Dean Lennox Kelly) has done to make ends meet and, unlike Barbara, she cannot rationalise the situation with her other half – she knows what he does. She also knows that Hedley is basically a decent bloke and that much of his involvement in crime is due to his need to prove himself [in his own eyes] in relation to his dead father, who was the great crook.

Ìý

Young Nick (Paul Barber)
A technological whiz, Young Nick services the gang from the comfort of his swish pad where he has every electronic gizmo that a modern crime gang needs. He worked with the original Invisibles in the Seventies and Eighties and is delighted they've reformed as it gives him the chance to play with his new toys.

Ìý

Grace Riley (Emily Head)
Aged 22, Grace is Maurice and Babs's daughter. Grace adores her dad and thinks he can do no wrong – that's because she has no idea that he made his money doing high-class robberies. Grace is reading English at university and lives away from home, returning for holidays and study leave.

Ìý

Joe Woolsey (Darren Tighe)
Syd's (Warren Clarke) son, Joe (25), is a wastrel who returns home periodically to touch his dad for money when he needs bailing out. He's a loveable ne'er-do-well without a hope in hell of ever making anything of his life. Syd loves him to death.
