The 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics on the ´óÏó´«Ã½

Interactive, online and mobile

´óÏó´«Ã½i

Ìý

The Olympics will be the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s biggest ever interactive operation.

Ìý

Available via the red button, it will enable satellite and cable viewers to choose from up to six channels of action, 24 hours a day.

Ìý

Freeview viewers will have access to three extra streams in addition to the offerings on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two – the first time that Freeview has ever offered three interactive streams.

Ìý

Olympics Interactive will be a 24-hour service offering a huge choice of sports as well as a full text service offering a medals table, news stories, reports and an events schedule.

Ìý

Between 2.00am and 6.00pm BST, Olympics Interactive will show the best of the day's action, much of it live, and after that replay the major events of the day to allow viewers to catch up on any sports they may have missed.

Ìý

Particular emphasis will be put on following members of the Great Britain squad in their bid for medal glory.

Ìý

Our interactive air-time will be upped from 1,000 hours of coverage at the Athens Olympics to 2,450 hours in China, giving viewers the chance to watch uninterrupted coverage of their favourite sports.

Ìý

Online

Ìý

As usual, bbc.co.uk/sport will have all the latest news, photos, results and big-name analysis on its dedicated Olympics site (bbc.co.uk/olympics).

Ìý

And UK users of the website will be able to watch live video of all the key action. They will be able to choose from up to six video streams showing simulcast coverage from ´óÏó´«Ã½ TV and ´óÏó´«Ã½ interactive.

Ìý

Highlights of the best of each day's action will be available to watch on demand and there will also be audio commentary available from Radio 5 Live, via the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport website.

Ìý

There will be video training guides from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport Academy to help people learn more about the sports that make up the Olympic Games at bbc.co.uk/sportacademy.

Ìý

We will be launching an Olympic blog – authored by ´óÏó´«Ã½ journalists and presenters, athletes and experts – which will have plenty of gossip, anecdotes and photos and gives readers to chance to interact with our writers.

Ìý

There will be an Olympics medal table, daily results and sport-by-sport results, and a daily event schedule and sport-by-sport event schedule.

Ìý

An automated coverage scheduler will give an hour-by-hour guide to what is on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One, Two, Three and Four, plus six DSat channels and three Freeview channels.

Ìý

Radio 5 Live's daily Olympic Podcast will be available to download, plus a commentary highlights podcast, content visualising stories from 5 Live programmes, a blog and photos.

Ìý

´óÏó´«Ã½ News will keep people up to date with all the major news coming out of China and the wider political and human interest stories from the Games via bbc.co.uk/news.

Ìý

Mobile

Ìý

There will be a full stand-alone Olympics section on bbc.co.uk/mobile/sport.

Ìý

Mobile phone users can sign up for free* daily Olympics text alerts. We will send a maximum of two texts per day alerting users when key events of that day are about to happen.

Ìý

UK users will also be able to catch up with the best of the action with video highlights clips on their mobile.

Ìý

* The ´óÏó´«Ã½ pays for the cost of the texts being sent out. Users pay 10-12p for sending a text to sign up for the service.
